Pick the Right Heat Shrink Size

Nine diameters from 1/4 in to 2 in, 50 ft per roll

Choose a size whose expanded diameter slides over your connector or lug and whose 3:1 recovered diameter is smaller than the wire it covers. Small sizes (1/4 to 1/2 in) suit wire splices and automotive harnesses; 5/8 to 1 in fits battery cables and ring terminals; 1-1/4 to 2 in covers large lugs, bundled cables and marine battery connections.

Make Every Connection Secure

3:1 shrink ratio with a melt-flow adhesive lining

Slide the tubing over the joint and apply heat with a heat gun. It recovers to one third of its original diameter and shrinks tight without air gaps, while the inner adhesive melts and flows to seal the connection against water and corrosion.

Marine-Grade Construction

Built for boats, vehicles and outdoor wiring

Dual wall tubing resists water, fluids, heat and mechanical strain, so splices and terminals stay protected in engine bays, bilges and outdoor runs. GEARit heat shrink is UL recognized and ISO, RoHS, SGS and REACH certified.

My previous experience with shrink tubing

My previous experience with shrink tubing is from the little packages at the hardware store. You get several small lengths of tubing and it works fairly well. This tubing comes in a large roll that should last a hobby guy a very long time. The tubing is far more robust than what I'm used to. It has a very thick wall and seems extremely durable. I often use a lighter or small torch to shrink my tubing. With the thin stuff I've used before I had to be careful not to burn the tubing. This stuff is far more resistant to melting or smoking, I assume because of its increased thickness. As a result its much easier to work with. The inside has a layer of goo that melts around your wires and creates a seal. Overall I'm very happy with this heavy duty heat-shrink tubing.

TheFatRancher only reviews products he has

TheFatRancher only reviews products he has actually used! Sealed up a solar panel splice and this heat shrink had a great shrink ratio, and stood up well to the heat. Next project: Repair trailer light leads with multiple splices and an overall wrap. I'll post more photos then.

I picked up the the 1”

I picked up the the 1” and 5/8” 3:1 ratio heat shrink tubing. I recently used it in a cabinet project, I covered the ends of my Deutsch connectors which worked out perfectly and is way cheaper then buying the matching weather boots that are sold for this purpose. Very happy with the results.

This is a nice heat shrink

This is a nice heat shrink tubing with adhesive to provide a good seal from external elements. I wanted to test the shrink tubing without any wires to see maximum shrinkage, but it got down to 5.8mm in diameter versus the original 12 to 13mm diameter form. To me this is more 2:1 instead of the 3:1 shrinkage. I didn't want to break out my heat gun, so I just used the oven with a pair of pliers to hold the shrink tubing and the best I got was the 5.8mm diameter even with a little flame catching on the tubing. It has a good amount of adhesive during the shrinking process. I like adhesive shrink tubing because it protects the soldering joint and doesn't allow outside elements from getting in and also has a good grip from the shrink tubing to the cable jacket.

This is a great value vs

This is a great value vs how I normally buy them by the foot. It works just as well, adhesion and shrinkage are great and durability doesn't look like it will be an issue. 50' should last me through a boat rewire and a van build.

This roll of 3/4' diameter heat

This roll of 3/4' diameter heat shrink tubing is larger than what is provided in the typical cheap assortment of heat shrink that comes in a kit. This tubing is thick-walled and shrinks to 1/3 the original size, as stated. The heat-activated glue inside the tube does an excellent job of sealing the heat shrink to whatever the tubing is applied to. The 50- foot long roll of tubing provides enough product to do jobs that require longer lengths of tubing. This tubing is perfect for wire splicing and connector ends on large gauge wires. It is perfect for small pump splices as shown in the first photo. It also makes for a thick wrap of abrasion control over the top of smaller gauge wires, as shown on the left in the second photo. At 3/4' diameter, this tubing can also be used to cover tool handles such as pliers and pruning shears. A variable temperature heat gun was used to shrink the tubing, so I can't comment on the product's resistance to scorching or flame resistance. The price/quantity for this high-performance heat shrink makes this product an economical choice.

This is good quality heat shrink

This is good quality heat shrink tubing. It is easy to shrink it with a heat gun. The adhesive works well. I the picture I added it looks like there is a gap. That is filled with the adhesive. I could not pull it off of the wire. That is thin insulation 10 AWG wire, at the small limit of this size tubing. But it holds well on that.

I've been using different shrink tubing

I've been using different shrink tubing in the marine industry for years, including connections used under tension a kilometer underwater with hundreds of volts, so I feel I'm able to assess this product with some familiarity. Tubing is fairly easy to use and has good shrink ratio. It takes a fair amount of heat and time to shrink it properly, best to use a full size 1500 watt heat gun, especially with the larger 1' tubing. After careful and gradual heating from the center out, I was able to see a slight oozing of the adhesive coming out the end, but it's not a lot of glue like some marine tubing I've used. Hence, take care to smooth the connectors with amalgamating tape or similar before covering with the shrink tubing to prevent lumpiness or sharp edges which might wear through and allow water penetration. I double layered and overlapped this tube for extra tension strength and durability. On the outer layer, I tried using a propane torch and it almost went well, but one spot the picture shows burned when I let the flame lick one spot a little to much. So, the more manageable heat from a heated air gun is preferable with this thin tubing. The packaging makes the 50' of tubing ship and store in a compact space, but the folds caused make the tube a little harder to work with and slide over things than unsquished products. Surely this would be a good product as well for non-electrical applications like terminating ropes or replacing handles on pliers, etc.

I use heat shrink pretty frequently

I use heat shrink pretty frequently for bundling wires, color coding wire ends, insulating connections, etc. This is my first time using one that has such a high shrink range. The product listing says there is an adhesive element on the interior. I cut a cross section to take a look in the picture - it's hard to tell, but there is a glossy surface on the inside. It looks to be a very thin layer, that adheres as it shrinks with the heat of the heat shrink gun.The material is very pliable before shrinking (similar to other heat shrink I've worked with), and is on the stiffer side when fully shrunk. It makes sense the material would be stiff since it's being shrunk down so much. This should work well for splices and end connections where you want to protect the connection from moisture.

The quality of the heat shrink

The quality of the heat shrink tubing is excellent. The adhesive lining makes this a great choice for waterproof connections or situations where you want semi-permanent bonding. You get an amount that for most purposes will last a very long time.Be aware that there is 4:1 shrink ratio tubing out there, but it's more expensive and this 3:1 will work perfectly in almost all cases.I am very pleased with the value provided, and I would recommend this heat shrink tubing.

I'm only a home-hobbyist and I've

I'm only a home-hobbyist and I've used heat-shrink tubing sets for years, but ended up trimming off (and throwing away) peices almost every time. I like bulk in rolls much better - way less waste. This seems to be better quality than the harbor freight (and others) tubing I've bought in the past. It took slightly longer to shrink, but was more flexible after it cooled. I used a 360 watt heat gun.

Having good heat shrink is important

Having good heat shrink is important if you do any of your own wiring or cabling. You get 50' of this 1 inch (diameter) heat shrink. It has a dual wall with a built in adhesive making ideal for marine environment. The tubing shrinks down nicely to a minimum of about 3/8' (maybe difficult to see in pic). Its a simply product that does a great job. At a dollar a foot, not to bad considering its 1' tubing.

This GearIT 1/4 inch heat shrink

This GearIT 1/4 inch heat shrink tubing really shrinks a lot and has thick walls once shrunken fully. The glue holds well.I measured 7mm inside diameter originally, 2mm ID shrunk, with 1.2mm thick walls. I used a hot air station at 125C (257F) to shrink in about 15 seconds (at 100C it didn't shrink).

Easily recovered 3/4' down to 1/4'

Easily recovered 3/4' down to 1/4' shrink with this adhesive lined tubing. Great for tools, cables and wires and other needs. The jacket is thick and durable and has a nice slow shrink to it, and you can clearly see the adhesive layer in there that adds waterproof protection as well as insulation for weather durability. Easy to work with and you have a good 50ft of it with this roll to use for all your shrink wrap tube needs. The shrink ratio allows a huge number of uses too since you don't have to be switching back and forth between different tube sizes for different projects.

Edit: adding picture because my partner

Edit: adding picture because my partner used the heat shrink to make a handle on a locating line punch tool. I thought that was a pretty cool use for heat shrink :)It is tried that for most people they probably will not use very much of this heat shrink in one go. However rewiring a jeep there are occasions for several multi-foot long stretches of heat shrink, mainly to make things look nice, but also for added protection.I've added pictures so you can see how it turned out so far. The picture with the red circle shows the adhesive coming out the end.Using it was fine. Naturally, the adhesive tries to grab at wires a bit when one is working the wires through (less of an issue with shorter pieces of heat shrink tube.) However I was satisfied with how it turned out and heat shrinking it with a heat gun worked like a dream.Doing some price comparison, I do think this might be just a tiny bit more expensive than average, though that may also come down to a quality issue. I haven't used any heat shrink with marine-grade adhesive in it before. Are all pretty much the same or is GearIT's that much better? I don't have an answer for this (hopefully some other reviewers does) but the price differences that I've seen isn't something to dismiss, I can say that GearIT's heat shrink worked very well and did exactly what I needed it to do.I will try to update if I notice any cracking in the extreme cold or extreme heat.Reviewing:GearIT 5/8 inch Heat Shrink Tubing – 3:1 Ratio Adhesive Lined, Marine-Grade Waterproof Industrial Shrink Wrap, Dual-Wall Tubing, UL Approved – 50FT Roll - Black
